Death at sea!
A really good friend of mine is in the merchant navy and when he was a first mate working on a cruise ship one of his duties was 'ships undertaker'. When a passenger died it was down to him to remove the body from the cabin where the passenger was to the on board mortuary.
Thankfully I don't think he did it that often but the next time your on a cruise or even see a cruise ship just remember what is lying in the bowels of the ship waiting for the reluctant passenger! My friend
progressed through the ranks and became captain of big commercial ships and spent many years at sea no doubt sending his juniors on the same macabre trip he had to make when he was training. Nowadays he works as a pilot on the Manchester ship canal and takes
life a little easier.
